As we begin to integrate project based learning into our curriculum, it is important to continue to focus on our
instructional goals. It may even be helpful to begin (and end) with an assessment that separates what we would call
content goals from technology
skills and
production/design features of the project.
- Content Goals:
- determine the number of atoms represented by a molecular formula
- know the atomic symbols of the first 20 elements
- understand the effect of a coefficient on the atomic part of a molecule
- understand the effect of the number of molecules on the counting of individual atoms
- Skills:
- Select appropriate images found on the internet
- Add those images in a podcast ready format
- Record a narration to explain the process
- Production/Design Features
- Pace narration correctly for the images
- Use proper mic techniques with correct volume
- Enunciation
- Appropriately use a music bed
Now we might create a rubric by attach a point values to our descriptions of what we are looking for in the project when we grade it. You may consider counting more points for a demonstration of content knowledge project than you allow for a demonstration of skills, production or design quality.
