Fifth and Sixth Grade Mrs. Stika

I am so excited about the things that we are going to be doing in the months to come. Not only do we learn grammar, but we also do quite a bit of writing. It is always exciting to read the many stories that the students produce. I am excited to share with you exaclty what we do over a two week period when we are writing. Below are some pictures from last years class as they went through the 5 steps of the writing process.
    Mrs. Stika

We begin by learning a particular type of writing. Here we were learning how to write a compare and contrast essays. They were a lot of fun.

First we learned how to organize our thoughts using a Venn Diagram. This helped us to determine how our two things were alike and how they were different.

Once our thoughts were organized, we had to decide how we were going to organize our paragraphs. Then we began our first draft.

After we drafted our story, then we revised and proofread our work using a peer writing conference. In other words, we got to be the teacher for the day! Once we had our work corrected, we were then able to make our final draft. This is what we call publishing. After two weeks of hard work we had successfully completed the writing process and had an awesome paper to show for it.
